Salt Lake Gets Green Light for Olympics

On Friday December 14th, Salt Lake City received the call they had been waiting for. The USOC board determined that Salt Lake would be the US bid city of choice over Denver due in part to the existing venues, their proximity to each other, the city's experience hosting the games and widespread community and political support.

With the International Olympic Committee trying to reinvent the Olympic Games as more affordable, Salt Lake believes they can be the example. Utahns can rest assured that their tax dollars won't be needed to pay for the proposed $1.4 billion budget for another Winter Games.

Salt Lake County to Rebuild Two Softball Complexes

Thanks to a healthy $5 million contribution from the Larry H. Miller Charities, Salt Lake will have fully renovated softball complexes in Millcreek and Taylorsville. Details on the venues, and more on the Larry H. Miller Charities organization can be found here.

State-of-the-Art Training Space Opens in Salt Lake

The $12 million, 36,700 sq. ft. multi-use Kearns Athlete Training and Element Event Center is a model of cooperation and innovation between government, non-profit, sport and community partners. The Kearns Athlete Training and Element Event Center will secure state-of-the-art training space and US Speedskating's permanent home in Kearns, create a new wing of fitness space for Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, and serve as a destination for community and corporate meetings.

Boxing returns to the Salt Palace Convention Center with the National Championships

Salt Lake welcomed USA Boxing during December, as athletes from all over the country poured in along with family and spectators. The Salt Palace Convention Center continues to prove itself as a high level sports venue for Olympic Governing Body championships, and large youth athletic events. The direct impact of the USA Boxing National Championships was just over $2 million for Salt Lake.
