Ken Sanders - Salt of The Earth

Ken Sanders is the literal definition of Salt of the Earth. A familiar face on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow, local activist, Monkey Wrenching apologist, friend of Edward Abbey, vinyl enthusiast, and librarian of Utah ephemera, Ken is the kind of person that creates honest community. Whether you’ve walked the stacks at Ken Sanders Rare Book Shop, or you’ve heard Ken rap off his favorite books on Doug Fabrizio’s Radio West, or you’ve just seen his impressive beard around town, you know that Ken is a true Salt Lake character.

Salt Lake's Olympic Spirit is Still Going Strong

The 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City brought a buzz that was unprecedented in a state known for its sobriety. Every citizen found a spirit and sense of local pride beyond anything they'd ever known, and volunteers lined up in droves to get in on the action. Over a decade later, locals and visitors alike can enjoy all the facilities developed for those 2002 Games. Each venue remains in place and has been repurposed for everyone from local schoolkids to professional athletes to use. Each place is both a monument to mind-blowing athleticism and a resource for those who want to experience the thrill of the Games firsthand.

Tour of Utah

Since 2004 the Tour of Utah has been pedaling the toughest stage race in America, and it's currently in full swing. Some cyclists might argue that it’s the prettiest and most scenic stage race in the world—and we can’t argue with that. The Tour of Utah is comprised of six stages, with 536 total miles and 43,780ft of total elevation gain. Seventeen teams will compete this year, including big dogs like BMC, Trek, Scott and more.

Temple Square

It's impossible to find a postcard stand in Utah without a Temple Square image on one of its racks. As the most-visited destination in Utah, the dramatic spires of the Mormon Salt Lake Temple do have a prominent place in the city skyline. Of course, the landmark has major spiritual significance to the Mormon church, but the place is so peacefully beautiful - and laden with fascinating pioneer-era history - it draws countless visitors who'd simply like to check it out.
