April is Salt Lake's Official Craft Beer Month

While some may not know, Salt Lake has a heady history in the hop arts. In the early 1900's, Salt Lake was one of the top beer producers in the West, and the tradition has continued. Thanks to some interesting liquor laws, Utah brewers have learned how to craft low-alcohol flavors to perfection. As Squatter's Brewmaster Jason Stock said: "We couldn't hide behind bruiser beers here, instead we had to focus on flavor.".

Salt of the Earth — Jason Stock

Did you know that Utah brewers have been winning craft competitions for years? Some have even said that Utah was doing 'session ales' before it became cool. Jason Stock is one of our favorite local brewmasters. If you've been to Salt Lake, you've probably seen his mug on the giant mural at Squatters. And chances are, you've drank a Hop Rising—Jason is rocking a pitchfork and overalls on the label.

Beneath its mountain-town image, Salt Lake is, at its heart, an art town. Here, performance arts, music, and visual arts have captivated Salt Lake citizens since the city's founding—the first public building in Utah, built was a Social Hall where early pioneer settlers could gather and enjoy the arts together. It was a great way to lighten up and take a break from their day-to-day toils, and maybe that's part of the reason that this city still has a love for the arts baked right into its culture.

How to Have a Good Time in Salt Lake

Most people would describe Salt Lake as "chill," "fun-loving," "outdoorsy," "adventurous," and "kind of a foodie." And yes, that sounds like the city has a Tinder profile, but truly, this town gets along with just about anyone and is always up for a good time. Whether you're a business traveler, you're on a ski trip, or you're bringing the whole family to adventure in Utah's wilds, there are countless ways to stay entertained, inspired, and well-fed in the biggest little mountain town ever.
